35 New Hunters Certified in Annual CVCC Hunter Safety Education Class

35 students successfully passed the written and practical certification tests on March 10 and 12 and earned their Hunter Safety Certification. The class average was 95% with 4 students achieving perfect scores. The graduates were invited to the Conservation Club for a .22 target shoot on Saturday March 14th followed by student awards and a meal served by CVCC members Gary Gilbeck and Paul Lewison. Top student in the class was Jeff Rochester with perfect 100% test scores who received a CVCC hat. Top .22 shooters were Claire Tjelta and Jeff Rochester who each received electronic hearing protectors from the CVCC. We also certified the youngest graduate in the history of CVCC hunter safety classes – Aaron Leis at age 8.

Pre-Registration now open for 2015 Hunter Safety Education Class

The Coon Valley Conservation Club is sponsoring their annual Wisconsin DNR Basic Hunter Education course. The regular classroom course will meet each Thursday at the Coon Valley Village Hall from 3:45 PM to 6:00 PM beginning on Jan. 29, 2015 and ending on March 12, 2015. There will also be two Saturday morning classes at the Coon Valley Conservation Club on Mar. 7 and Mar. 14 from 9 AM to Noon. There is no minimum or maximum age. Parents are encouraged to enroll and participate. A Parent or Guardian must attend the first class to complete and sign registration forms for any student under the age of 18. Pre-registration is reqired by Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015. Email student information to to pre-register.

24 New Hunters Certified at Sept. 27th On-Line Class Field Day

The CVCC Hunter Safety volunteer instructors completed their fourth WI DNR Hunter Safety Education class of 2014 with a Final Field Day for 24 students from the On-Line class. The students participated in a group instruction session followed by three small group sessions including live firing of .22 rifles and 20 ga. shotguns. Warden Shawna Stringham spoke to the class at noon and answered questions prior to the final testing. Instructors for this class were Corky Roethel, Tyler Deavor, Dick Wallin, Dean Daniels, Kevin Sloan, Jim Beck, and Royce Curtis.

Registrations now being accepted for Fall Hunter Safety Classes

Two opportunities are being offered to earn Wisconsin DNR Hunter Safety Education certification. The first is the On-Line internet based course with all lessons completed on the computer prior to the
Sept. 27th Field Day at the Coon Valley Conservation Club. To register for this class and reserve a spot at the Field Day students must email their Name, DNR Customer ID Number and Birthdate to

20 New Hunters Certified at Apr. 26th DNR Hunter Safety Education Field Day

For the first time in 5 years Mother Nature held back the rain and presented the students and instructors with an ideal day to complete the Wisconsin DNR Hunter Safety Education certification process for the CVCC On-Line class. 20 students were successful with the certification testing after a morning of hands on demonstration and practice of their skills including live firing of .22 rifles and 20 ga. shotguns. Thanks to the CVCC for hosting this event and to the volunteer instructors for all their time and dedication to help produce safe, responsible and ethical hunters. Volunteer instructors included Steve Pauloski, Corky Roethel, Pete Klizke, Hunter Pauloski, Tyler Deaver, Dick Wallen, John Alseth and Royce Curtis.

39 New Hunters Certified in CVCC-DNR Class

39 Hunter Safety students in the regular class successfully completed the certification testing on 3/11 and 3/13. 24 of those students came to the CVCC on 3/15 and shot .22 rifles at the CVCC shooting range. This was followed by award of certificates and patches plus a CVCC blaze orange Hunter Safety hat. A noon meal for the students and their families was provided by the CVCC (Thanks to Gary, Paul, Bruce and Scott!). Five students made perfect scores on the certification tests and received special CVCC camo hats. Also receiving special CVCC hats were the top boy and girl shooters.

27 New Hunters Certified at Apr. 27 Field Day

The CVCC DNR Hunter Safety Education team successfully certified all 27 students participating in the On-Line class final Field Day on Saturday, April 27th.  Students  spent the morning with demonstrations and hands on practice with firearms, tree stand safety, hunting techniques, and live firing of .22 rifles and 20 ga.
