CVCC "Work Day" Scheduled for Sat. Nov. 1st Starting at 8 AM

Lots of fall tasks to take care of before winter and the big push to get ready for the hunting seasons. List includes hauling in wood plus general cleaning, organizing and inventory.

24 New Hunters Certified at Sept. 27th On-Line Class Field Day

The CVCC Hunter Safety volunteer instructors completed their fourth WI DNR Hunter Safety Education class of 2014 with a Final Field Day for 24 students from the On-Line class. The students participated in a group instruction session followed by three small group sessions including live firing of .22 rifles and 20 ga. shotguns. Warden Shawna Stringham spoke to the class at noon and answered questions prior to the final testing. Instructors for this class were Corky Roethel, Tyler Deavor, Dick Wallin, Dean Daniels, Kevin Sloan, Jim Beck, and Royce Curtis.

2014 Fall Fundraiser

 Tickets are on Sale for this year's Fall Fundraiser! This year's event will be Oct. 4th at the Coon Valley Village Hall. Doors open at 5pm and meal will be served at 6pm. Included is a sit down rib dinner, over $4000 in door prizes (Cash and High Quality Firearms) plus several interesting raffles with a variety of prizes for all. If you would like to get in the package deals the forms must be turned in by the 28th of this month.

Rules

1. Open to any centerfire rifle that was issued to any military organization, manufactured before 1960.
2. Rifle must have issue stock and issue iron sights.
3. Ammo should be of military power, either surplus, factory or reloads.
4. No shooting jacket or slings.

Many Summer Shooting Activities Available at the CVCC

Late summer is a prime vacation time but also a great time to get out and sharpen up your shooting skills for the upcoming hunting seasons. Check out the CVCC calendar! There is still 2 more weeks of the Summer Archery League plus the archery practice range is almost always open. The Open Trap Shooting continues on Wednesday evenings starting at 6 PM. Our 11th annual "Smoke in the Valley" traditional muzzleloader shoot starts at 1:00 PM on Sat. Aug. 16th and our second Retired Military Rifle shoot will be all day on Sat. Aug. 23rd.

Registrations now being accepted for Fall Hunter Safety Classes

Two opportunities are being offered to earn Wisconsin DNR Hunter Safety Education certification. The first is the On-Line internet based course with all lessons completed on the computer prior to the
Sept. 27th Field Day at the Coon Valley Conservation Club. To register for this class and reserve a spot at the Field Day students must email their Name, DNR Customer ID Number and Birthdate to CVCCHuntSafe@gmail.com

Sound reduction project on Big Bore range

 We have modified the Big bore range shooting house to reduce the sound in the shooting house when shooting. Let us know what you think and if you can tell a difference. We would like to also modify the rest of the shooting houses but we want to make sure what we put up is working. I spoke to a few officers. We definitely will be over but can't make it this week. Had three committee meetings plus our trap league night on Monday. And to top it off my trap gun just went in for emergency repairs. I will be in touch soon. And thanks again for the invite.

Coon Creek Rendezvous

The 8th annual Coon Creek Rendezvous will be next week and weekend with camps set up in the Coon Valley Park. The CVCC will again supply 3D targets for archery events in the park. Other events will include knife and hawk competitions plus the women's frying pan toss and games for the kids. Traders will be offering their wares and many camps will have special items available to view and buy. The CVCC will host and provide prizes for the muzzleloader shooting competition on Saturday starting at 1:00 PM at the CVCC shooting range.
