Pre-Registration now open for 2015 Hunter Safety Education Class

The Coon Valley Conservation Club is sponsoring their annual Wisconsin DNR Basic Hunter Education course. The regular classroom course will meet each Thursday at the Coon Valley Village Hall from 3:45 PM to 6:00 PM beginning on Jan. 29, 2015 and ending on March 12, 2015. There will also be two Saturday morning classes at the Coon Valley Conservation Club on Mar. 7 and Mar. 14 from 9 AM to Noon. There is no minimum or maximum age. Parents are encouraged to enroll and participate. A Parent or Guardian must attend the first class to complete and sign registration forms for any student under the age of 18. Pre-registration is reqired by Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015. Email student information to CVCCHuntSafe@gmail.com to pre-register. Enrollment in this class is limited and preference will be given to those youth attending the Westby Area Schools who will be 12 or older prior to the 2015 hunting seasons and their parents. Others will be admitted if space is available. The course fee is $10.00 and covers all necessary materials. A Wisconsin DNR Customer ID Number is also required and can be obtained by calling 1-888-936-7463. Persons born on or after 1-1-73 must have a hunter education certificate to purchase any regular Wisconsin hunting license. (Persons 10 years or older can now participate in the special Mentored Hunting Program without this certification.)

Persons successfully completing the course will receive a basic hunter education graduate certificate and a distinctive embroidered emblem. Young students certified will be able to purchase a hunting license in any state, and hunt alone (with parental permission) when they turn 14. Classes will cover hunting topics such as hunting equipment and methods, rules and regulations, ethics, responsibility, first aid and survival, principles of wildlife management, and basic firearms knowledge and safety.

STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS MUST CONTACT THE INSTRUCTOR AT LEAST TWO WEEKS IN ADVANCE OF THE COURSE TO REQUEST SPECIAL ACCOMMODATIONS.

Note: An On-Line section of this class is available for those students who cannot attend the regular scheduled class. Enrollment numbers are restricted for this type of class. This is a
“self-study Internet based” class with attendance at final Field Training and Testing day
